Where modern slavery risks may arise
We recognise that modern slavery risks can arise in different areas of care, support, recruitment and supplier relationships. We aim to stay alert to signs of exploitation and take concerns seriously.
Recruitment and employment
Risks may include unfair recruitment, coercion, withheld documents, excessive working hours, poor treatment or pressure from third parties.
People we support
People with care and support needs may be more vulnerable to exploitation, coercion, financial abuse, criminal exploitation or unsafe relationships.
Suppliers and partners
Risks may arise through contracted services, property-related services, cleaning, maintenance, transport, agency staffing or other supply arrangements.
Steps we take to reduce risk
Safe recruitment and checks
We aim to follow safer recruitment processes, check suitability for roles and confirm right to work where required.
Safeguarding awareness
We encourage staff to recognise and report safeguarding concerns, including signs of exploitation, coercion, neglect or abuse.
Clear reporting routes
Concerns can be raised through management, safeguarding routes, whistleblowing routes, complaints processes or external professionals where needed.
Supplier awareness
We expect suppliers, contractors and partners to act lawfully, ethically and responsibly and to raise concerns where risks are identified.
Possible signs of exploitation
Modern slavery and exploitation can be hidden. Warning signs may not always be obvious, but concerns should be taken seriously and shared through the right route.
Control or coercion
Someone appears controlled by another person, cannot speak freely, seems fearful, or is pressured about where they live, work or go.
Financial exploitation
Someone has little control over their money, wages or benefits, or another person appears to manage their finances inappropriately.
Unsafe work or living conditions
Someone appears to be working excessive hours, living in unsafe accommodation, or being moved around without choice.
How to raise a concern
If you are worried about modern slavery, human trafficking, exploitation or unsafe practice linked to Pathway Living Services, please report it as soon as possible.
