Our commitment

Protecting adults at risk

We are committed to protecting adults at risk and to working in line with safeguarding duties, good practice and professional standards. This includes recognising concerns early, responding appropriately, reducing risk where possible and supporting adults with dignity, fairness and respect.

All safeguarding concerns are handled sensitively, recorded appropriately and shared only where necessary to protect the adult at risk or meet legal and professional responsibilities.

What safeguarding means

Types of safeguarding concerns

Safeguarding includes recognising, preventing and responding to a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Physical abuse
  • Emotional or psychological abuse
  • Financial abuse or exploitation
  • Neglect or acts of omission
  • Discriminatory abuse
  • Organisational or institutional abuse
  • Self-neglect
  • Coercion, bullying or unsafe practice
Identification

How concerns may be identified

Concerns may be identified through direct disclosures, changes in behaviour, presentation, incidents, observations by staff, feedback from families or professionals, or worries raised by other agencies.

All concerns are taken seriously and considered on their own facts.

How concerns are handled

Our safeguarding response

1

Record and review

Safeguarding concerns may be recorded, reviewed and considered in line with the level of risk and available information.

2

Escalate where appropriate

Concerns may be escalated to relevant safeguarding partners, local authorities, health professionals or emergency services.

3

Support safer outcomes

We aim to reduce risk, support safety and involve adults in decisions that affect them wherever possible.

Our approach

Person-centred safeguarding

We aim to respond promptly, listen carefully, keep accurate records and take proportionate action to reduce risk. Our approach is person-centred and focused on safety, dignity, wellbeing and practical next steps.

Wherever possible, adults are supported to be involved in decisions that affect them.

Information sharing

Confidentiality and safeguarding

Safeguarding information is handled sensitively and shared responsibly. Where necessary, information may be shared with relevant professionals or authorities to protect an adult at risk, support an investigation, or comply with legal and professional responsibilities.

Where appropriate, safeguarding concerns may also be raised directly with the relevant local authority safeguarding adults team.
